Mick Foley yet again finds himself in a power chair in WWE, taking up an authority role on TV for the third time proper, not to mention numerous one-offs and sly incidental contracts he had signed up following his original stint as WWF Commissioner.
A proto-Bryan, he moved from a storied in-ring career almost immediately into plaid-wearing top dog. Playing a fun-loving child-like 'Commish' against the backdrop of an almighty WWF that was firing on every cylinder in 2000, the run still holds up today. Foley injected life and humour into mini-feuds with Triple H, Kurt Angle, Edge, and Christian, before Steve Austin returned as a complete miserable b*stard in the latter half of the year and dragged everybody down with him.
These days, when kept at a legally mandated distance from the women's division, Foley remains a reliable hand in a hit-or-miss role and if those insane bumps bought him anything, it was seemingly eternal fan loyalty.
No matter how many times he's allowed to take the wheel, he always seems to steer the show fairly, never (yet, at least) going power-mad or cracking under McMahon pressure which he often also finds a familiar problem with. Alright, he went bonkers in TNA for five minutes, but five seconds in that place could smash anyone's pumpkin.
It wasn't just a catchy title to flog books, Foley really is good.
