There have been rumours ever since her WWE career ended that Chyna was once considered for a run as WWF Heavyweight Champion. If it was ever on the cards, the summer of 1999 would have been the time to do it. Chyna was over enough that she was being booked in matches against the likes of Triple H and The Undertaker.
On the 9 August 1999 episode of Raw, Chyna faced both those men in a Triple Threat encounter. Shawn Michaels was installed as the Special Guest Referee, but he couldn't stop Steve Austin from interfering and cracking 'The Game' over the head with a steel chair.
Austin then draped Chyna over her man, and suddenly she was the new top contender for the WWF Title. It was a landmark moment in her career, and probably the highest she would ever go in the company.
Later, Chyna would lose her right for a crack at the championship to Mankind, but for that brief moment it looked like she may actually be in line for a shot at the top title in the entire industry.
