On Raw six days ahead of the event, Ambrose teased winning the opportunistic briefcase and cashing in on the winner of the Reigns vs. Rollins main event later in the night. Fans saw it as nothing more than a red herring, but as it turned out, that was exactly what happened. Ambrose cashed in the coveted contract minutes removed from Rollins' victory over Reigns to capture his first WWE World Championship.
Of course, it is highly unlikely he would have even sniffed the strap as long as Reigns was in possession of it. That said, WWE did the right thing by having Ambrose pin Reigns clean with a Dirty Deeds in the highly anticipated Shield Triple Threat match at Battleground, which marked Reigns' first on-air appearance since the suspension.
Since, Ambrose is still the reigning world champion on the SmackDown brand, and has solidified his spot as the No. 1 babyface on Tuesday nights.
