When you’re tweaking essentially the same high-quality product every year then personalisation is key. The clamour for a stadium builder or customiser is back and it’s only getting louder.
FIFA 15 finally added all 20 Premier League grounds as part of an official 40-stadium licensing deal but it’s not enough.
Hardcore fans want to control every detail while even the most casual player would like the option to tinker with seat colour, dug-out position and grass pattern to make a generic stadium look more like their home ground.
Imagine having the option to effectively mute the away fans by re-seating them up in the nose-bleed seats like Barcelona do or shrink the pitch to suit your team’s narrow style of play. That kind of power would add tens of hours to gameplay longevity and bring a whole new dimension to online matches.
On a business level, adding a stadium option is a no-brainer. Minecraft is dominating kids computer screens and tablets and if developers are to have any hope of migrating them towards titles with more traditional gameplay like FIFA and not have them fall behind then they’ll have to add a similar level of customisation.
Your game, your stadium, your way.
Konami already have a Stadium Builder option in PES but so far EA have refused to buckle under immense pressure. Surely it’s only a matter of time before this happens and may even help win over some Pro Evo loyalists.
